People who realize that life is a Spiritual path that ultimately leads us to conscious union and realization of the Divine, engage in so-called Spiritual practices.
Why? Very simple.
It is the destiny of every human being to step out of our humanity and into our divinity.
That’s the evolutionary goal of humanity. If you look at humanity’s state of consciousness back in the Middle Ages and compare it to humanity’s consciousness today, I think we will all agree that we have evolved. We are advancing. Right?
Now, up to a certain point, the Spirit of divinity or the Spirit of evolution within us, so-to-speak, pushes us on, from the inside out. This is how we made it from, say, the cave to the middle ages.
But there comes a point when the personality, the man being fully identified with the body and emotions and intellect, senses or grasps the existence of Soul or Higher Self or whatever you want to call it, the existence of something beyond the physical. And then there comes a point where the personality develops a desire to connect with the Soul.
And as the personality reaches out to the Soul, the Soul responds to the call by reaching down, so to speak. And this keeps going back and forth, with each reaching up and reaching down the personality becoming more and more Soul-infused.
And this is when – how to say – this is when on the level of brain awareness, we begin to formulate an idea of the Soul which its qualities or characteristics of unconditional love, wisdom, power, will, harmony, beauty, etc., and then we make a conscious decision to step into that ideal. That’s called evolution.
As a human species, we are slowly but surely sensing that there is something beyond, that we ARE something beyond the physical body. And we are, even if mostly unconsciously, striving to get there or become it or attain it.
Why do we all strive for something higher and better? Where does this longing to learn and grow, and serve and accomplish come from? It is the Spirit of evolution within us pushing us on from the inside out.
So, for many incarnations this is an unconscious process. But there does come a day in the life of every human being, where the personality is sufficiently Soul-infused, so-to-speak, where the inner knowingness of the reality of a higher self or Soul supersedes the rational mind that denies Soul.
And that’s when we start realizing what life is all about and that our life is a Spiritual path leading to conscious union and realization of the Divine. And so we start formulating a higher ideal and develop the desire to step into that ideal. I mean, really that’s part of what we do here at the I AM University. To the best of our ability, we formulate a higher ideal: the ideal of what an Integrated Enlightened Master looks like, because that’s the next step in human evolution, and we formulate it so we can then step into it and become one.
And now, what does all this have to do with Spiritual practices?
It has everything to do with it because once you formulate a higher ideal for yourself and decide to step into it, you do so-called Spiritual practices to attain the ideal. So, Spiritual practices are exercises we CONSCIOUSLY do to reach the next step in our evolution.
